Projects

Greener Abergavenny turns ideas into action through a diverse range of community-led projects.

From restoring local green spaces and promoting renewable energy to hosting our flagship town fair, we are working to build a more sustainable and resilient Abergavenny.

Here are some of our projects to date.

TrydaNi EV Car Hire scheme

Stop Press. 13 June 2026

We are delighted that the TrydaNi EV Car Hire scheme is now available in Abergavenny! Read more at TrydaNi Scheme goes live.

The scheme is designed to run as a community scheme with members supporting each other, including several 'champions' who can guide  those who are new to driving and charging an electric vehicle.

The vehicle, a Kia Niro EV, is located at Fairfield Car Park.

Membership is free, with users paying an hourly hire charge plus a mileage-based fee.

Several Members have already enjoyed use of the car since the launch on 9th June.

You need to be over 25 and under 80 to sign up. Membership enables you to book EVs in all of the TrydaNi Locations across Wales.

The aim is to provide affordable access to a zero-emission vehicle that can be booked quickly and easily through the TrydaNi app.

We have the use of 2 parking spaces with dedicated chargers, so if we see good growth a second car may be provided.

Why not sign up and try a test drive?

Two spaces have been allocated

Swifts of Abergavenny

Promoting Swift Conservation in our Town

In response to the steep decline in the population of swifts in the UK, a group has recently been established in Abergavenny with the aim of increasing swift numbers in our town. Our first step is to establish where swifts are currently nesting and how many nest sites there are, with the help of volunteers. Next year we are hoping to put up nest boxes to encourage more swifts.

We also want to increase awareness of the plight of swifts and to do this we will be running craft workshops for adults and children with Abergavenny Community Centre.

This project is a collaboration between Swifts of Usk, Monmouthshire County Council (who have supported us with funding to do the mapping and workshops), Gwent Wildlife Trust and Greener Abergavenny and supported by Abergavenny Community Centre.

Visit a Heat Pump

Visit a Heat Pump is a UK-wide scheme from NESTA that connects people with hosts who have already been through the process of choosing and installing a heat pump. It's an opportunity to ask questions and arrange a visit.

You can use the platform to:

  • Search for hosts near you and learn from people who have "done it."

  • Book an upcoming event or message hosts directly to arrange a visit or ask questions.

  • Learn firsthand from heat pump owners and experts.

Greener Abergavenny has shared information about the scheme, and we now have several local hosts ready to share their experiences with anyone interested in evaluating the technology.

Nevill Hall Nature Spaces

The group's aim is to work with the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board and the local community to restore and develop the historic gardens of Nevill Hall Hospital in Abergavenny. This is achieved by providing volunteer support and charitable funding.

Our goal is to make these spaces a resource for patients, staff, and the general public. We aim to improve and create new access points while promoting and preserving biodiversity.

In the initial phase, improvements are planned for the Pond, Orchard, and Woodland at the rear of the original Nevill Hall building.

Further improvements are also being planned, including the restoration of the Sensory Garden.
